The Many Faces of Anna Karenina

Greetings from Kit Cat Island! I return to you with promises of more, frequent entries! And with Valentine's Day approaching, what better topic to explore than amor. There's platonic, romantic, familial, carnal and the big elusive one of all, "True Love." I'll be posting images and clips of how this larger than life concept of true love is played out on the big screen. Today I begin with the many faces of Anna Karenina, the classic saga by Leo Tolstoy, often cited as "the greatest novel ever written." That's what Leo said; no lack of confidence there! Well, Anna Karenina is certainly at the top of my list and as a brunette actress, I would throw myself in front of a moving train to play her, these leading ladies have....

"Happy families are all alike; every unhappy family is unhappy in their own way."

Greta Garbo IS Anna Karenina,  pondering how her pure passion and ultimately adultery could go so terribly wrong in the aristocratic Russian society that keeps her trapped in a loveless marriage.

Vivien Leigh gives her best profile and is pretty superior in terms of sobbing in the rain regarding lost lovers and figuring out some way to get them back...

What would we do without Masterpiece Theatre? You'd be tempted to throw it all away with this hunk of a Vronsky!

"I don't want to prove anything; I merely want to live."

"An extraordinary woman! It's not her cleverness, but she has such wonderful depth of feeling. I'm awfully sorry for her."
